Subaru: Confidence in Motion

As the largest manufacturer of four-wheel drive passenger cars, the Japanese automobile brand Subaru has made a name for itself since 1953. Thanks to outstanding results in motor sport, e.g. in World Rally Championships and 24-hour races, the car manufacturer also established itself successfully throughout Europe.

Subaru was founded as a subsidiary of the technology group Fuji Heavy Industries, whose first president Kenji Kita gave the company its current name.

Subaru presented its first production vehicle in 1958: The Subaru 360 was extremely popular as a small car for the Japanese people. Visually, the model resembled both the Fiat Nuova 500 and the VW Beetle and had only rear-wheel drive at the time. This was followed by the Subaru 1000 with front-wheel drive, before they produced the Subaru Leone Station Wagon, the first vehicle with (switchable) all-wheel drive. Eventually, it was precisely this concept of all-wheel drive passenger cars that became the company's trademark.

With the acquisition of the naming rights of the legendary Blitzen-Benz from Mercedes and the special sporty models of the Legacy based on it, the Japanese car manufacturer achieved a resounding success. The models still enjoy cult status in the automotive scene today.
