Jeep: The Original

For many, the Jeep brand is the epitome of an off-road vehicle. The name of the model originally designed for the military has long since become a generic designation in Europe. Today, off-road vehicles are valued less for rough roads and increasingly as lifestyle vehicles.

The Jeep success story

In 1940, the U.S. Army put out a tender for the development of a four-wheel drive off-road vehicle. After extensive testing, the Willys-Overland company finally won the contract with the Willys MA model; just one year later, the revised successor Willys MB appeared, which celebrated great success especially due to its functionality and performance. According to Jeep, it was the manufacturer's first true model.

Over the following years, Jeep increasingly established itself as a brand for civilian, off-road vehicles with improved drive systems. The distinctive radiator grille design, on the other hand, remains unchanged to this day and is regarded as a characteristic trademark with its seven long rounded recesses.
